Leslie Byrd Biography

At the impressionable age of eight, the jazz organ arrangements of Jimmy Smith struck a chord of harmony in the ears of Leslie Byrd. In the years to follow, Leslie would eventually invite his lifelong idol for a jam session. Leslie's extensive musical background and education radiated as he absorbed all he could from that evening of magic!

Leslie's educational interest in music continued into college, where he excelled at the Cornish School Of Music and Seattle University. After colleg, Leslie put his studies aside to work as a professional jazz musician. He formed the Leslie Byrd Trio which arose from the inspirations he acquired along the way.

After gaining a solid musical foundation with the trio, he decided to go on the road, joining a variety of bands touring throughout the Pacific Northwest, The United States and Canada. He soon joined a national tour with the Lester Chambers Group (of the Chamber Brothers, hits include 'Time Has Come Today'). Leslie traveled to Los Angeles where opportunities arose to record and play with such greats as Bobby Caldwell, Tower Of Power, Lou Rawls, The Spencer Davis Group, and many more.

Currently, Leslie is playing more than ever, leading his own trio. This group of musicians plays a variety of music including Jazz, Blues, Pop and Rhythm and Blues. Leslie Byrd's band features incredible musicianship from each player, with Leslie providing the driving rhythm on the legendary Hammond B-3 organ. And yes, he still tours with the real thing - a Hammond B-3 with a custom designed Leslie and amp setup that is guaranteed to blow your socks off (if you're lucky enough to catch him live)!

With digital distribution on Interactive Jack Records and a strong live performance, Leslie is at the turning point of an expanding career.
